Unlocking Hygiene Knowledge
As a freelance designer and developer, I partnered with Accord Australasia and Ident to revitalise the Hygiene for Health website. This project involved a complete redesign and rebuild, transforming the outdated, Flash-based site into a modern, responsive and accessible platform.

Challenge
The existing Hygiene for Health website, built in 2010, lacked responsive design and accessibility features. Critically, the reliance on Adobe Flash had rendered parts of the site inoperable due to browser security updates.
The challenge was to bring the site into the future, providing a user-friendly and engaging experience while accommodating a substantial amount of content.
Solution
Building upon the success of the WashWise project, I collaborated with Ident to overhaul the site’s information architecture and streamline content. The WashWise website served as a foundation, incorporating user feedback and enhancing its best features to handle the larger volume of information on Hygiene for Health.
The goal was to create an intriguing and interactive experience that encouraged exploration and learning.
My Role and Approach
As a freelance contractor, I was responsible for the end-to-end design and development:
- Collaborated with Ident on art direction and information architecture.
- Advocated for content reduction and simplification.
- Adapted and enhanced the WashWise user experience for Hygiene for Health’s needs.
- Developed a fully responsive and accessible website.
Impact
The redesigned Hygiene for Health website launched at the 2019 AOSDAC & Accord Cleaning & Hygiene Conference, met with enthusiasm from industry members. This modern and effective platform is:
- Fully responsive and accessible, ensuring a positive user experience across all devices.
- Interactive, encouraging exploration and learning and making complex information more digestible.
- Aligned with WashWise to create a cohesive brand identity and consistent experience for Accord’s sustainability initiatives.
- A foundation, serving as a template for future development of Accord’s other sustainable initiatives, ensuring consistency and efficiency.
